Brendan Taylor came into the Zimbabwe national team in 2003-04 at the age of 18. He began his career as an opening batsman, but in 2005 moved down to the middle-order. Taylor has the ability to build an innings, as is testified by his record of close to 30 centuries in all classes of cricket, but recently has been dismissed trying to play too aggressively. He has lot of qualities including that he has kept wicket since the age of eight and also plans to develop his off breaks. He was selected for the Partridges, the national primary-school side, at the age of 11; he has been selected for age-group teams ever since, and has played in two Under-19 World Cups. At the age of 15 he made his first-class debut for Mashonaland A. the following year he scored 200 not out in the B Division of the Logan Cup. He is one of the important players of the Zimbabwe cricket team and was picked for the national side despite not signing a new contract at the start of 2006.
